Hyderabad: Police registered a case and started an investigation after a customer alleged excess petrol billing at an HP petrol bunk in Hayathnagar.
The complainant alleged that staff at the petrol station issued a receipt showing 32 litres of petrol filled into a car with a tank capacity of 27 litres.
According to the customer, the car already contained two to three litres of petrol before refuelling. However, bunk staff reportedly claimed they filled around 29.5 litres into the tank after he asked them to fill it completely.
The customer questioned how the petrol bunk could fill more fuel than the actual tank capacity. He also demanded verification of the fuel dispensed into the vehicle.
Excess petrol billing triggers customer complaint
The complainant said bunk staff offered to measure the petrol using five-litre cans. However, he insisted on checking the quantity with a proper measuring cylinder.
He further alleged that petrol bunk employees dismissed his concerns. According to him, staff claimed there was no issue with the dispensing system.
The customer also alleged that employees asked him to approach the police if he wanted to pursue the complaint.
He later urged authorities to conduct inspections at petrol stations and prevent similar incidents from recurring.
The incident again raised concerns over alleged irregularities at fuel stations in Hyderabad. Earlier, complaints also surfaced over water contamination and incorrect fuel meter readings at some petrol bunks.
