Hyderabad: A special court in Hyderabad issued a defamation notice to Kamareddy MLA Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy in a case filed by Mohammed Ilyasuddin, son of Government Adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir.
The case came before the Special Court for Cases of MLAs and MPs at Nampally.
According to the complaint, the MLA allegedly made defamatory remarks on February 17 and February 21, 2026, after the Kamareddy municipal election results.
The complaint alleged that Venkata Ramana Reddy falsely accused Mohammed Ilyasuddin of involvement in rape cases.
Advocate Garakarajula Sumanth said the MLA allegedly circulated the statements through media platforms despite knowing the allegations were false.
Defamation notice issued after preliminary hearing
Mohammed Ilyasuddin approached the court alleging that the remarks damaged his reputation.
After hearing preliminary arguments, the court directed the MLA to appear before it on May 20.
Further proceedings in the case will continue before the Special Court for Cases of MLAs and MPs.
