Hyderabad: BRS Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao accused the Congress government of failing to implement its six guarantees even after 1,000 days in office.
He said Congress had promised to deliver the guarantees within 100 days of assuming power. He made the allegation on Wednesday at Telangana Bhavan, where the BRS released a ‘charge sheet’ on the alleged failures of the government.
BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao led the programme marking 1,000 days since the Congress government assumed office.
Harish Rao said former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had helped achieve statehood for Telangana and then worked to build the new State according to public aspirations.
He claimed the BRS government had delivered nine-and-a-half years of good governance under KCR. Several of its programmes had also emerged as models for the country, he said.
According to Harish Rao, the systems developed during the BRS administration began weakening after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s government took charge.
He alleged that education, healthcare, electricity, drinking water and law and order had deteriorated under the present government.
Congress six guarantees and alleged decline in public services
Harish Rao said farmers had received 24-hour free electricity during the KCR administration. He alleged that farmers were now struggling to get adequate power under the Revanth Reddy government.
He also claimed Telangana’s healthcare system had previously become one of the best in the country. Under the Congress government, however, even basic medicines were allegedly unavailable in government hospitals.
Harish Rao said the State had been expected to make rapid progress but was instead moving towards regression because of what he described as the Congress government’s incompetence.
He further alleged that the government’s failure to implement the Congress six guarantees had created difficulties for people across different sections of society.
The BRS leader said his party had already announced a seven-day protest programme. The agitation would seek to pressure the government to protect public systems, implement the six guarantees and address people’s problems.
“As the principal Opposition party, we will continue our fight by standing with the people,” he said.
The BRS’s seven-day protest programme was the next step announced by the party to press its demands.
