Southern Command HQ Hyderabad move mooted by CM
Key issues discussed included swift resolution of land and administrative disputes between the Indian Army and Telangana government. The Chief Minister also requested the establishment of a Sainik School in Telangana. He pointed out that several states have received two to four such institutions over the past decade. Meanwhile, Telangana has been allotted none.
Revanth Reddy emphasized the state’s willingness to support national defence infrastructure. For example, he cited the recent allocation of 3,000 acres in Vikarabad for a low-frequency Navy radar station as proof of Telangana’s commitment.
The proposal to shift the Southern Command HQ to Hyderabad, if accepted, would mark a significant strategic and administrative shift. This would impact the military presence in southern India.
