Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy congratulated the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) for completing 1,000 NIMS robotic surgeries in less than three years. He described the achievement as a major milestone in Telangana’s efforts to make advanced healthcare accessible to all.
The Chief Minister said the accomplishment marked a transformative moment in public healthcare. Moreover, he said it brought world-class robotic surgery within the reach of patients who could not otherwise afford such treatment.
He said the milestone reflected NIMS’ commitment to excellence, innovation and equitable healthcare. In addition, he noted that robotic technology has improved surgical precision. It has reduced postoperative pain and blood loss. It has also shortened hospital stays and accelerated patient recovery.
NIMS robotic surgeries set new benchmark
Revanth Reddy said NIMS has set a new benchmark for public healthcare institutions by integrating robotic technology into routine clinical practice.
He congratulated Dr Rahul Devraj, Director of NIMS, Senior Professor of Urology and Renal Transplantation, and Robotic Surgery Coordinator. He also praised the Departments of Urology, Surgical Gastroenterology, Surgical Oncology, Anaesthesiology, Nursing Services, Operation Theatre staff and other supporting departments for their dedication and teamwork.
The Department of Urology performed 590 robotic-assisted surgeries. Meanwhile, Surgical Gastroenterology completed 248 procedures. Surgical Oncology carried out 162 surgeries. Together, the departments handled a wide range of complex urological, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, colorectal, gynaecological and oncological procedures.
More than 90% of the NIMS robotic surgeries were performed free of cost under government healthcare schemes, including Aarogyasri and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. As a result, economically disadvantaged patients received advanced robotic surgical care without financial burden.
The Chief Minister said the milestone reaffirmed the Telangana government’s commitment to providing affordable, world-class healthcare to every citizen.
