Hyderabad: Energy and Mines Minister G Vivek Venkataswamy laid the foundation stone for the Chennur Pushkar Ghat on Tuesday. The government began the project ahead of the Godavari Pushkaralu-2027.
The minister said the government was developing ghats, roads and basic amenities for devotees. He said these works would help prevent inconvenience during the event.
The government will construct modern bathing ghats at a cost of ₹8 crore. Vivek said around one lakh devotees would visit Chennur for the 2027 Pushkaralu.
The government allocated ₹1,000 crore for the Godavari Pushkaralu celebrations across Telangana, the minister said. In addition, Vivek said he had asked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to give special priority to Chennur.
The government then sanctioned around ₹70 crore for development works in Chennur, Vivek said. He added that authorities had allocated Tier-1 funds to major pilgrimage centres such as Kaleshwaram and Dharmapuri.
Chennur Pushkar Ghat gets roads and public facilities
The minister said the government would also develop major roads in Chennur. It allocated ₹3 crore for the road connecting the 10th Ward with the Pushkar Ghat.
Authorities earmarked another ₹5.5 crore for road widening, CC roads and central lighting in Chennur town. Meanwhile, Vivek said the government would support small traders facing difficulties because of road widening.
For this purpose, the government sanctioned ₹1.20 crore from DMFT funds to construct 20 shops. The tender process will finish soon, and construction will then begin.
The government also plans to consider shops for traders who previously lost their establishments during road widening. Further, it sanctioned ₹17 crore to develop the Shiva temple in Chennur as a major tourist destination.
Officials are also planning to develop the Crocodile Park as a tourist attraction. In addition, the proposals include guest houses and other required facilities.
Vivek said the government aimed to turn Chennur into a modern urban centre. Alongside the Pushkaralu works, development projects worth around ₹30 crore were underway under the AMRUT scheme.
The minister also said the government was taking steps to inaugurate the 100-bed hospital in Chennur this month. He said the inauguration would likely take place on October 1 or 2.
Vivek reiterated the government’s commitment to developing Chennur as a model town. The Chennur Pushkar Ghat project formed part of the broader development works planned for the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu.
