Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday announced a high-level party delegation would visit the Jurala project. The team would assess water levels and farmers’ problems downstream, while the BJP sought adequate Jurala water releases to protect crops.
Addressing the media at the BJP state office, Rao alleged that the BRS and Congress had focused on political distractions. He claimed they had failed to address public issues.
Rao demanded that the Congress government ensure enough water from Jurala for crops in downstream areas. He said adequate Jurala water releases were necessary to protect farmers facing water shortages.
He also urged the Telangana government to coordinate with the Congress government in Karnataka. Rao sought water releases from the Almatti and Narayanpur projects as part of that coordination.

Rao also criticised the State government over the non-implementation of the PM Fasal Bima Yojana. He said farmers who suffered crop losses lacked adequate insurance protection. According to Rao, those losses included damage linked to El Niño conditions. He argued that implementing the insurance scheme would provide protection to affected farmers.
Meanwhile, Rao raised concerns over arrangements for Ganesh idol immersion in Hyderabad. He demanded permission for large idols to be immersed in Hussain Sagar in keeping with tradition.
He also condemned the arrests of members of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi. In addition, Rao alleged that police resources had been diverted to political matters. He claimed those resources should instead have been fully deployed for Ganesh immersion arrangements.
Rao also referred to support provided by the Centre to Telangana under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the Union government had supported the State through infrastructure and railway initiatives.
He further cited airport-related initiatives and food-grain support while outlining the Centre’s role in Telangana. Earlier, Rao welcomed several prominent leaders from Warangal into the BJP.
The proposed Jurala visit was aimed at assessing water availability and downstream farmers’ concerns. Rao’s demand for Jurala water releases formed part of the BJP’s appeal for measures to protect standing crops.
