Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju on Monday directed Mines and Geology officials to increase revenue from mineral resources through their efficient utilisation across Telangana.
Jaju issued the directions during a review meeting with senior department officials at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat. He held the meeting on the directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary reviewed the department’s functioning and administrative matters. He also examined revenue mobilisation, recruitment to vacant posts, employee promotions and other departmental issues.
Jaju asked officials to take effective measures to improve revenue from mineral resources available under the department’s jurisdiction. He stressed that available resources should be utilised efficiently to strengthen government revenue.
He also instructed officials to accelerate recruitment for vacant posts in the department. In addition, eligible employees should receive promotions in accordance with the applicable rules. The Chief Secretary said officials should take suitable measures to address staff shortages. He directed them to ensure that vacancies did not disrupt the department’s regular functioning.
Action on illegal mining to protect revenue from mineral resources
Jaju also ordered stringent action against illegal sand transportation, unauthorised mining and unlawful transportation of minerals across Telangana. Officials were asked to identify areas where illegal mining and transportation were taking place. They were also directed to conduct regular inspections in such locations.
Furthermore, Jaju instructed vigilance teams to intensify enforcement measures against violations. The teams were directed to conduct surprise inspections and raids to curb illegal mining.
He also asked officials to prevent the illegal transportation of minerals through sustained monitoring and enforcement. The measures formed part of the department’s efforts to safeguard revenue from mineral resources and curb unlawful activity.
