Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP alleged irregularities in the Telangana SIR process and accused the Congress and AIMIM of interfering with the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. A BJP delegation submitted a written complaint to the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Monday.
State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao alleged that successive governments in Telangana had given undue importance to the AIMIM. He urged the Election Commission to intervene immediately. He also asked it to ensure the SIR exercise remained fair and transparent.
Telangana SIR process under BJP scrutiny
Ramchander Rao alleged that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were not distributing enumeration forms door to door in Hyderabad’s Old City. Instead, he claimed, AIMIM leaders distributed forms in bulk through camps.
He also alleged that AIMIM leaders had received access to the Election Commission’s app to upload completed enumeration forms. The BJP sought an inquiry into the allegation.
Meanwhile, the BJP claimed many voters in the GHMC, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, Warangal and Karimnagar municipal corporation areas had not received enumeration forms. The party also claimed different polling booths covered members of the same family. It said this arrangement made it difficult for BLOs to identify households.
The BJP urged the Election Commission to direct BLOs to visit houses at least three times if voters were absent. It also requested bilingual enumeration forms in Telugu and English for people who had migrated from other states for work, education or business.
The BJP urged the Chief Electoral Officer to address the issues promptly. It also sought measures to ensure the Telangana SIR process remained transparent.
