Hyderabad: Minister for Public Enterprises and Minority Welfare Mohammed Azharuddin reviewed Muharram 2026 arrangements at a high-level meeting held at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat on Friday.
The meeting brought together senior officials from multiple departments, district collectors, police commissioners and representatives of minority welfare institutions.
TIMRIS Chairman Faheem Quraishi, Minority Welfare Secretary B. Shafiullah and Director of Minorities Welfare also attended the review.
Azharuddin assessed preparations for Muharram observances, including the historic Bibi-ka-Alam procession.
He directed all departments to work in close coordination and ensure the smooth conduct of the events.
Muharram 2026 arrangements focus on public facilities and security
The minister instructed officials to strengthen sanitation, street lighting, drinking water supply and medical services.
He also reviewed transportation facilities, traffic management plans and power supply arrangements.
Further, he directed departments to improve cleanliness at Ashoorkhanas and complete road and sewerage repairs on priority.
Officials also discussed fire safety measures and public convenience facilities.
Azharuddin asked police authorities to make adequate security and traffic arrangements for devotees participating in Muharram processions.
Meanwhile, he directed RTC officials to operate sufficient bus services and provide necessary transport support.
The minister also reviewed preparations related to the traditional elephant for the Bibi-ka-Alam procession.
He instructed the concerned departments to obtain all required permissions well in advance.
Further, he asked the Telangana Wakf Board to coordinate repair and maintenance works at Ashoorkhanas and Sabeels.
Azharuddin informed officials about suggestions made by MLAs and MLCs during earlier review meetings.
Accordingly, he directed departments to examine those proposals and improve facilities wherever required.
The minister stressed the need for better planning, stronger coordination and timely execution of works.
He also asked officials to learn from previous experiences and address any shortcomings.
Additionally, he urged departments to maintain regular communication with community elders, religious scholars and Ashoorkhana committees.
Officials will conduct field inspections regularly and submit progress reports on the arrangements.
Azharuddin directed all departments to remain alert and respond quickly to any issue during the Muharram period.
He reiterated the Telangana Government’s commitment to supporting the peaceful, safe and successful conduct of Muharram 2026.
