Yellow alert issued for thunderstorms and heavy rain in Telangana

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Yellow alert for several districts of Telangana after forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on Monday. Officials also warned residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.

According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, heavy rainfall is likely in Adilabad, Nirmal, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Suryapet, Jagtial, Mancherial, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sircilla, Rangareddy and Medak districts. The department said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at several places.

Authorities advised people to avoid taking shelter under trees or standing near electric poles when thunder is heard or lightning is observed. They urged residents to move to safer locations until the weather improves.

The Amaravati Meteorological Centre also forecast widespread rainfall across Andhra Pradesh. Coastal Andhra is expected to receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms at isolated places during the day.

Rayalaseema is likely to witness light rainfall at a few places, according to the forecast. The weather department said the sky would remain generally cloudy over many parts of the state.

Officials appealed to the public to monitor weather updates and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities, especially in areas prone to lightning and heavy rain.
