Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy demanded an immediate special Parliament session to enact the 33 per cent women reservation bill in legislative bodies.
He made the demand on Thursday after paying floral tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary at the Secretariat.
Revanth Reddy said the INDIA alliance stood ready to support the women reservation bill in Parliament. He also warned the Union government against politicising the issue.
Women reservation bill linked to Rajiv Gandhi’s vision
The Chief Minister said women’s reservation in legislative bodies should draw inspiration from Rajiv Gandhi. He said Rajiv Gandhi had introduced women’s quota in local bodies to strengthen their political empowerment.
Revanth Reddy said Rajiv Gandhi ushered in the technology era in India. He also said the former Prime Minister guided the country towards development through liberalised policies.
“The People’s government is following the ideals of Rajiv Gandhi for the empowerment of women,” he said.
He further recalled Sonia Gandhi’s decision to fulfil the demand for a separate Telangana State. Revanth Reddy said Telangana maintained an inseparable bond with the Gandhi family.
“The relationship between the Gandhi family and Telangana people is more than a family,” he said. He added that people would remember the Gandhi family as long as Telangana existed.
