TPCC chief defends SPB statue, slams caste-based criticism

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Thursday defended the installation of singer SP Balasubrahmanyam’s statue at Ravindra Bharathi, criticising attempts to inject caste and religion into the controversy.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan, Goud stated that artists like SPB brought national pride through their talent, and should not be judged on community identity. He condemned those politicising the issue and described such actions as inappropriate and divisive.

He accused opposition parties of spreading misinformation to distract from the ongoing two-year anniversary celebrations of the People’s Government led by the Congress. Goud asserted that the party was confident of retaining power in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Goud further alleged that the BJP and BRS were working in tandem, claiming that both parties failed the public. He said the previous BRS government oversaw widespread corruption and looting.

Commenting on environmental concerns, Goud said the air pollution in New Delhi should serve as a warning. He emphasised the Congress government’s commitment to developing Hyderabad into a global city while avoiding such crises.
