Hyderabad: The Telangana government will allocate ₹5 crore for tourist guide training and recruitment at historical sites, Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao announced on Monday.
The Minister made the announcement during International Museum Day celebrations held at the State Museum in Public Gardens, Hyderabad. He said the initiative aimed to create employment opportunities for local youth while improving visitor experiences at historical destinations.
Jupally Krishna Rao said the government planned to launch a specialised tourist guide training programme to ensure visitors received quality information about heritage monuments and historical sites.
He described museums as living repositories of knowledge that reflected a society’s civilisation, culture and way of life. The Minister said protecting world heritage remained a collective responsibility of society and not just the duty of the government.
The event began with the Minister lighting the traditional lamp. He also released official brochures and two books titled Paramara Jagaddeva’s Inscriptions in Telangana and Stucco Sculptures in Centenary Museum.
Tourist guide training linked to heritage promotion
Jupally Krishna Rao said museums and heritage wealth preserved a nation’s greatness and cultural legacy for future generations.
He noted that earlier generations built remarkable architectural structures without modern technology. The Minister said people could not fully appreciate life without experiencing such heritage monuments.
He highlighted that the inclusion of Ramappa Temple in the UNESCO World Heritage list had brought international recognition to Telangana’s history and cultural richness.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to placing Telangana prominently on the global tourism map through effective promotion of its monumental heritage.
Tourist guide training to support local youth
Jupally Krishna Rao said the government attached top priority to heritage conservation and the development of historical monuments across Telangana.
According to the Minister, the tourist guide training initiative would strengthen tourism services while generating jobs for youth living near heritage destinations.
He added that trained guides would help visitors better understand the historical and cultural importance of Telangana’s monuments and museums.
