Hyderabad: Telangana has set a ₹1 lakh crore target for life sciences investments by 2030, aiming to create five lakh jobs, Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu announced on Wednesday.
Roadmap 2030 unveiled at AusBiotech
At the AusBiotech International Conference 2025 in Melbourne, the Minister presented Telangana’s “Roadmap 2030,” a strategy to establish the State as a global leader in life sciences innovation. The event was jointly hosted by AusBiotech and the Government of Victoria.
Sridhar Babu said the government is preparing a Comprehensive Life Sciences Policy. This policy aims to speed up infrastructure development, build global partnerships, and promote innovation in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and healthcare.
State outpaces national economic growth
The Minister highlighted Telangana’s strong economic performance. Despite ranking 11th in land area and 12th in population, the State contributes over 5% to India’s GDP. He pointed out that Telangana’s GSDP growth for 2024–25 reached 8.2%, exceeding the national average of 7.6%.
Over the last 20 months, the State attracted ₹3.2 lakh crore in total investments. Of this, ₹63,000 crore came from the life sciences sector. Exports from this sector crossed ₹26,000 crore between April and December 2024.
Global recognition for Hyderabad
Sridhar Babu noted that Telangana plans to grow the value of its life sciences economy from USD 80 billion to USD 250 billion by 2030. He cited a CBRE report that listed Hyderabad in the Global Life Sciences Atlas 2025. The report placed Hyderabad alongside top international clusters like Boston, San Francisco, Cambridge, Beijing, and Tokyo. Hyderabad is the only Indian city in the ranking.
Talent development and global partnerships
To support this growth, Telangana is investing in advanced skill development. The Life Sciences University and Young India Skills University are State initiatives aimed at creating a skilled workforce for the bio-digital era.
In addition, Telangana is collaborating with global institutions. The State is working with the World Economic Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution to align its innovation ecosystem with international standards.
“Telangana’s strength lies in its innovation ecosystem. Our slogan is not merely Make in India, but Invent in Telangana,” the Minister said.
He invited Australian firms to invest in the State’s high-growth sectors, especially in emerging technologies.
