Hyderabad: The Telangana Maoist surrender created a major setback for the banned CPI (Maoist) as 37 members laid down arms before DGP Shivadhar Reddy. The group included senior leaders Koyyada Sambayya alias Azad, Appasi Narayana alias Ramesh and area committee member Muchchaki Somada alias Erralu from the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee. Additionally, three divisional committee members, nine regional committee members and twenty-two dalam members participated in the surrender. Twenty-five women and twelve men were among them. After spending decades underground, they returned to public life in response to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s appeal, the DGP said during a media briefing in Hyderabad.
Rewards announced during Telangana Maoist surrender
Only two surrendered members belonged to Telangana. Sambayya came from Moddulagudem in Govindaraopet mandal in Mulugu district, while Narayana hailed from Ramagundam in Peddapalli district. Meanwhile, the remaining cadres were natives of Chhattisgarh. Furthermore, seven Maoists linked to the Khammam Division handed over eight weapons. Police recovered one AK-47 rifle, two SLRs, four .303 rifles, one G3 rifle and 346 rounds of multiple calibres. Each cadre received ₹25,000 as immediate assistance.
Azad carried a reward of ₹20 lakh, and Narayana carried the same amount. Consequently, DGP Shivadhar Reddy handed them the cheques at the venue. The total reward on all surrendered members stood at ₹1.41 crore, and the government planned to release the full amount. Moreover, the DGP said eligible members from Telangana would receive the state’s rehabilitation package.
After Telangana Maoist surrender, police urge remaining cadres to return
The DGP said fifty-nine Maoists from Telangana were still underground. Among them, five served as Central Committee members: Muppalla Laxman Rao alias Ganapathy, Mall Rajireddy alias Sangram, Tippiri Tirupati alias Devji, Paka Hanmanthu alias Uke Ganesh and Pasunoori Narahari alias Vishwanath. He urged all remaining cadres to surrender soon. In addition, the police promised full protection and assured them that no harassment would occur. The DGP also said the department had no evidence to confirm claims that Devji currently leads the party.
