Hyderabad: Telangana literacy efforts received special recognition at the 60th International Literacy Day celebrations in New Delhi on Tuesday. Kasipet mandal in Mancherial district was selected nationally for achieving 100% literacy.
The School Education and Literacy Department under the Union Ministry of Education organised the programme at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar International Centre. This year’s theme was “Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity.”
Tripura Chief Minister Professor Dr Manik Saha presided over the celebrations. Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Education Jayant Chaudhary, Education Secretary T.K. Anil Kumar and Additional Secretary Archana Sharma Awasthi attended the programme.
Education ministers from Mizoram, Goa, Tripura, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand also participated. These states had achieved 100% literacy. The ministers spoke about the importance of literacy and its impact on living standards.
Meanwhile, organisers unveiled a special film on the ULLAS–Nav Bharat Saaksharta Programme. They also launched the ULLAS DTH channel.
In addition, ULLAS learners, volunteer teachers and adult education officials from across the country attended the celebrations.
Telangana literacy achievement earns national honour
Kasipet mandal in Mancherial district earned national-level recognition for its 100% literacy achievement. As a result, the initiative brought special attention to Telangana’s work under the adult literacy programme.
Learners Jyothi, Bhoomamma and Harilal represented Kasipet at the Delhi celebrations. Along with them, volunteer teachers Rajeshwari, Kavitha and Rajitha attended the event.
DRP B. Shambhavi accompanied the group to New Delhi. Subsequently, the learners and volunteers received honours during the national-level programme.
Officials involved in the initiative also participated in the celebrations. Deputy Director Purushotham Naik, who supported efforts to develop Kasipet as a fully literate mandal, attended the event.
Similarly, Ranga Reddy district Deputy Director Anita, State Adult Education Director, Deputy Director General Mohammed Numan and State Coordinator Shailaja took part.
Their participation followed the selection of Kasipet for national recognition. Furthermore, the officials had supported efforts that helped the mandal reach the 100% literacy milestone.
ULLAS Mela to showcase Telangana’s literacy efforts
The state will showcase its literacy programme at the ULLAS Mela scheduled for September 9, 2026. Telangana will set up a dedicated stall at the event.
The stall will present the action plan adopted to achieve 100% literacy. In addition, cultural programmes and Kala Jatha performances will showcase the state’s literacy success story.
The ULLAS Mela will provide a platform for Telangana to present its approach to literacy promotion. Accordingly, the state’s stall will focus on the measures used to achieve the 100% literacy target.
