Hyderabad: Minister for Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said Telangana housing for poor was setting a national benchmark, citing higher financial assistance under the Indiramma housing scheme.
Speaking on Wednesday, he said Telangana was the only state providing ₹5 lakh per house under the scheme. Moreover, he said this reflected the government’s commitment to housing for the underprivileged.
The Minister announced that 10,000 houses would be constructed in Nalgonda constituency over the next three years. Additionally, he said there was scope to build another 5,000 units if required.
He said development works in Nalgonda town were being fast-tracked. In particular, authorities were focusing on improving civic infrastructure.

Komatireddy Venkat Reddy attended a housewarming ceremony of an Indiramma house built by Srinivasa Rao and Padma in the 41st division of Nalgonda town.
Speaking to reporters, he said other states provided about ₹1.7 lakh per unit. However, Telangana’s higher allocation highlighted its stronger commitment.
He said about 700 houses were already under construction in the town. Meanwhile, issues related to L2 and L3 categories would be resolved soon at the Cabinet level.
The Minister said officials were identifying land along Devarakonda, Narketpally and Tipparti roads. Subsequently, the government would take a final decision after assessment to develop an Indiramma colony.
Telangana housing for poor linked to civic and farm issues
On a proposal to allot land to journalists behind the Collectorate, he said the matter would be reviewed with district authorities. If required, it would be taken up with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
On paddy procurement, he asked farmers to remain patient. He explained that delays occurred due to high moisture content cited by millers.
He said about 50 per cent of procurement had been completed. Further, officials were taking steps to speed up the process.
With summer intensifying, he said measures were being taken to prevent drinking water shortages. For instance, supply through tanks, borewells and motors was being ensured in coordination with civic authorities.
