HYDERABAD: In a significant move to enhance healthcare services in north Telangana, the State Government has sanctioned ₹85 crore for the upgradation and development of hospitals in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts.
The announcement was made following a high-level review meeting chaired by Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and attended by Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat on Friday.
During the meeting, Mohammed Ali Shabbir highlighted critical infrastructure deficiencies in government hospitals, particularly in Nizamabad. He pointed out that the 750-bed Government Hospital in Nizamabad was functioning with only one operational lift, creating serious challenges for patients and staff. Responding to the concern, the Health Minister immediately sanctioned two additional lifts. He also approved wide-ranging renovation and infrastructure improvements, including upgrades to drainage and drinking water systems. A total of ₹63 crore was allocated for infrastructure development, staffing, and essential services in the district.
The condition of Kamareddy district’s government hospital was found to be equally alarming. Shabbir Ali informed the Minister that the 250-bed Government Hospital in Kamareddy lacked a CT scan facility. Shocked by the absence of basic diagnostic tools, the Minister directed that a CT scan be installed within a week. He also approved the establishment of a trauma centre to strengthen emergency care services.
In a notable development, the State Government has also approved the upgradation of the Community Health Centre at Domakonda in Kamareddy district from a 30-bed to a 50-bed facility. According to Government Order No. 137 issued by the Health, Medical & Family Welfare (I) Department on April 8, 2025, ₹22 crore has been sanctioned for civil works and medical equipment under the “Assistance to TVVP” scheme, with financial concurrence from the Finance Department.
Health Secretary Dr Christina Z. Chongthu confirmed the developments and said that directives have been issued to the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) and the Telangana State Medical Services & Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC) to implement the approved projects without delay.
Shabbir Ali stated that Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha would personally visit the districts to inaugurate the new facilities and lay foundation stones for upcoming works. “This initiative clearly reflects the Congress Government’s commitment to strengthening public healthcare infrastructure, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas,” he said.
The review meeting was attended by key health officials, including Dr Narender Kumar (Director of Medical Education), Vemula Thomas (Additional Director, DME), Bhorkhade Hemant Sahadeorao (Managing Director, TSMSIDC), Dr B. Ravinder Nayak (Director of Public Health), Dr Farida Begum (Superintendent, Kamareddy Government Hospital), Dr V. Shiva Prasad (Principal, Government Medical College, Kamareddy), Dr Srinivas (Superintendent, Government Hospital, Nizamabad), and Dr Shiva Prasad (Principal, Government Medical College, Nizamabad).
