Hyderabad: BRS leaders staged an LPG cylinder shortage protest near Gun Park close to the Assembly, with working president K T Rama Rao leading legislators against alleged supply failures.
MLAs and MLCs joined the LPG cylinder shortage protest holding placards shaped like gas cylinders. They raised slogans against both the central and state governments over the ongoing situation. The protest drew attention to difficulties faced by households in accessing cooking gas.
Speaking to the media, K T Rama Rao criticised both governments for what he described as negligence. He said people had struggled to secure cylinders since the onset of international conflicts. Despite claims from the Centre that there was no shortage, he said ground realities showed otherwise.
LPG cylinder shortage protest targets governments
K T Rama Rao said the Centre continued to deny any LPG shortage. At the same time, he said the state government avoided responsibility by citing lack of control over the petroleum sector. As a result, he said ordinary citizens suffered the consequences of this situation.
He compared the situation to a conflict where the weakest sections bore the brunt. He said the lack of coordination between governments had worsened public hardship. Therefore, he urged both governments to respond with clarity.
LPG cylinder shortage protest raises supply concerns
K T Rama Rao also expressed concern over possible plans to reduce cylinder capacity. He said there were indications that authorities might cut the standard cylinder size from 14 kg to 10 kg. Such a move, he said, would further burden consumers.
He demanded that the government issue an immediate clarification on LPG supply. In addition, he called on the Centre to intervene and ensure adequate availability of cylinders. He said timely action would help address the concerns raised during the LPG cylinder shortage protest.
