Telangana announces free accident insurance for employees

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday announced a free accident insurance scheme for Telangana government employees. The Cabinet, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, approved the scheme to provide financial security to employees and their families.

Bhatti Vikramarka said the government negotiated with banks to provide the insurance without imposing any additional financial burden on either the State or employees. He described the initiative as an unprecedented employee welfare measure.

Under the free accident insurance scheme, the family of an employee who dies in a road or general accident will receive ₹1.25 crore. In the event of death in an air accident, the compensation will range between ₹2 crore and ₹3 crore.

Free accident insurance covers all employee categories

The scheme also provides a ₹10 lakh life insurance cover for employees aged between 18 and 60 years. It includes financial assistance for permanent total disability and partial disability resulting from accidents.

Bhatti Vikramarka said the scheme would benefit regular employees, contract staff, outsourcing personnel and other temporary workers whose salaries are processed through government records every month.

He said the government introduced the scheme to ensure that no family faced financial hardship after losing its primary breadwinner. He added that the government wanted employees’ families to feel secure during difficult times.

Free accident insurance complements employee welfare measures

The Deputy Chief Minister said the previous government often delayed salary payments until the middle of the month. According to him, those delays affected employees who had housing, vehicle and education loans because they struggled to pay monthly EMIs on time.

He said the present government introduced strict financial management measures to credit salaries on the first day of every month despite financial challenges.

Bhatti Vikramarka also announced a permanent solution to the long-pending issue of employee health cards. In addition, he said the Cabinet had decided to establish a dedicated trust to provide comprehensive cashless medical services to all government employees.
