Talasani hits out at Congress over BRS peace rally restrictions

Hyderabad: Sanathnagar MLA and BRS leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav hit out at the Congress government over restrictions imposed on the BRS peace rally, asserting that the party would protect Secunderabad’s identity.

Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan, Talasani questioned whether the right to protest applied only to the ruling party. He alleged that the government imposed widespread restrictions to prevent people from joining the BRS peace rally. As a result, he said the administration attempted to stifle a peaceful democratic protest.

Talasani said authorities deployed thousands of police personnel overnight. He alleged that police stopped BRS leaders by citing lack of permission for the BRS peace rally. Meanwhile, he questioned why the government objected to a peaceful rally announced well in advance.

BRS peace rally permission denied at last minute, says Talasani

Talasani said the party submitted applications seeking permission for the rally much earlier. However, he claimed police informed them only late Friday night that permission was denied. Therefore, he alleged that authorities changed their stand abruptly.

He accused the Congress government of adopting double standards. While Congress leaders organised rallies freely, he said officials blocked opposition programmes. Moreover, he alleged that authorities conveyed approval earlier and withdrew it overnight.

Talasani said the party would approach the court if police continued to deny permission. He asserted that the BRS would conduct the BRS peace rally after securing legal clearance. At the same time, he warned that restrictions and arrests could not stop democratic movements.

He reiterated that the struggle to protect Secunderabad’s historical identity would continue. He said pressure or policing would not deter the party from defending the city’s existence and self-respect.
