Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday urged the Centre to approve the pending Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project. He also sought faster clearance for metro expansion plans in the city.
During a meeting in New Delhi, Revanth Reddy requested Union Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to approve the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II proposal submitted by the Telangana government.
The Chief Minister informed the Union Minister that the state had already prepared a comprehensive plan for Hyderabad Metro Phase-II. The proposal covers seven metro corridors across the city.
He said the Telangana government had already submitted a Detailed Project Report for the expansion project to the Centre.
Hyderabad Metro Phase-II expansion discussed in Delhi
Revanth Reddy said Hyderabad urgently required metro expansion for safer public transport. He added that the project would improve commuter convenience in rapidly growing parts of the city.
He also informed the Union Minister that the Telangana government had taken full control of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-I from L&TMRHL.
According to the Chief Minister, the takeover would help smooth implementation of Metro Phase-II and Phase-III projects.
Moreover, the Telangana government prepared a DPR covering 122.9 kilometres under Metro Phase-II. The project includes seven corridors and carries an estimated cost of Rs.38,595 crore.
Metro Phase-II proposal includes airport corridor
Revanth Reddy requested the Centre to execute Metro Phase-II as a joint venture with the Telangana government.
He also urged the Union Minister to include the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport–Bharat Future City corridor under Hyderabad Metro Phase-III.
Further, the Chief Minister informed Manohar Lal Khattar that officials had already submitted the DPR for Metro Phase-III to the Centre.
Union Secretary for Housing and Urban Affairs K. Srinivas, HMRCL Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmed, government adviser N.V.S. Reddy, and other officials attended the meeting.
