AHMEDABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, addressing the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, launched a sharp attack on the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing them of promoting Nathuram Godse’s ideology and vowing to prevent the BJP from gaining a foothold in Telangana.
Speaking at the Congress brainstorming session held on the banks of the Sabarmati river, Revanth Reddy said that while the Congress stood for Mahatma Gandhi’s principles, Prime Minister Modi was spreading the ideology of Godse. He appealed to citizens across the country, as well as followers of the Gandhi family and Rahul Gandhi, to unite and fight against this ideology.
Revanth Reddy criticised the Modi government for its treatment of farmers, stating that despite nationwide protests lasting over a year, the Centre refused to hold talks with the agitating farmers. He further alleged that the Prime Minister incited violence in Manipur and attempted to suppress the rights of the country’s indigenous communities.
Highlighting Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Chief Minister noted that Gandhi had made promises including a caste census, farm loan waivers, employment generation for youth, and women’s welfare. Revanth Reddy emphasised that the Congress government in Telangana had fulfilled these commitments by waiving ₹21,000 crore in farm loans, benefiting 2.5 million farmers within just ten months in office. He also noted that his government had conducted the caste census in line with Rahul Gandhi’s assurances.
He accused the Modi government of preventing Rahul Gandhi from speaking in Parliament, fearing he would raise the issue of caste census. “Modi had promised two crore jobs annually. Eleven years have passed, and over 20 crore jobs should have been created by now. But instead, two crore youth lose jobs every year, while only Modi and Amit Shah are employed,” he remarked.
Revanth Reddy urged all followers of Gandhian values to stand with Rahul Gandhi in the ongoing struggle against the BJP. “We must defeat the descendants of Godse and Prime Minister Modi,” he declared, adding that he returned from the CWC meeting with renewed hope for the empowerment of farmers, women, and youth.
The Chief Minister drew a historical parallel, stating that Telangana was freed from Nizam’s rule under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and later achieved statehood due to Sonia Gandhi’s efforts. “From the land of Vallabhbhai Patel, I promise that under Sonia Gandhi’s leadership, we will not let BJP enter Telangana. We will stop them, and no one will forgive them,” he said.
Revanth Reddy compared BJP leaders to British colonial rulers, stating that while the British never harmed Mahatma Gandhi, Godse’s followers killed him within six months of India’s independence. “BJP leaders are more dangerous than the British. Just as we drove the British out, we must now drive the BJP out of the country under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership,” he added.
Revanth Reddy called on Congress workers and Gandhian supporters to take up the responsibility of ensuring BJP’s defeat in Telangana and across the nation.
