Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed profound grief over the Bharathiraja death and described the veteran filmmaker’s passing as an irreparable loss to Indian cinema.
Bharathiraja died in the early hours of Wednesday following age-related health complications. He was 84.
The Chief Minister recalled that Bharathiraja built a distinct identity in cinema during a career spanning nearly four decades.
He said the Padma Shri awardee earned recognition as both a director and actor.
Revanth Reddy also noted that Bharathiraja made significant contributions through several meaningful films in different languages.
Bharathiraja death marks end of a celebrated film career
The Chief Minister said the filmmaker’s death had created a void in the industry.
He conveyed his condolences to Bharathiraja’s family members and admirers.
Meanwhile, Bharathiraja began his directorial journey with 16 Vayathinile in 1977.
The film featured Sridevi, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth.
Thereafter, he gained acclaim for introducing a storytelling style rooted in rural Tamil Nadu.
His notable works included Mudal Mariyadhai, Vedam Puthithu and Karuthamma.
He also directed Kizhakke Pogum Rail, Alaigal Oivathillai and Sigappu Rojakkal.
Further, Bharathiraja won six National Awards during his career.
Widely known as “Iyakkunar Imayam”, he played a key role in shaping the careers of several actors and actresses.
In recent months, the veteran filmmaker underwent treatment for age-related ailments.
As a result, he largely stayed away from public appearances.
