Hyderabad: Telangana will inaugurate one lakh Indiramma houses by March. Another two lakh will be inaugurated by June 2026, Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced on Friday.
He said the state government had sanctioned nearly four lakh houses so far under the Indiramma Housing Scheme. He noted that three lakh are currently under construction.
Speaking at the Secretariat, the Minister reviewed the Housing Department’s progress over the past two years. He said the government plans to approve houses for low-income groups in all towns and cities. These include areas under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Indiramma housing scheme to expand in urban areas
Ponguleti also revealed that a new policy would soon be introduced to enable the construction of G+3 buildings. The government is preparing an affordable housing policy for the middle class. It ensures budget-friendly homes without causing financial losses to the exchequer.
He said four sites near the Outer Ring Road have been selected for the construction of 8,000 to 10,000 houses each. These projects will be discussed at the upcoming Global Summit.
The Minister added that dilapidated houses built under the Kukatpally Housing Board during a previous Congress regime may be demolished. This is to make way for high-rise apartments.
Corruption-free implementation promised
Ponguleti stated that the government had completed previously stalled 2 BHK units at a cost of ₹700 crore. Moreover, they invested an additional ₹200 crore for amenities in the surrounding localities.
He said the government had constructed retaining walls for 1,000 acres of Housing Board land. They would also reclaim occupied or leased plots.
To ensure a corruption-free implementation of the scheme, he said strict action is being taken against erring officials.
“We have suspended nine Panchayati Raj secretaries for taking bribes and dismissed two others from service,” the Minister said.
