Hyderabad: Revenue, Housing, and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy directed district collectors and officials to remain on high alert as Telangana prepared for an intense six-day heatwave.
The Telangana heatwave alert came after the Meteorological Department warned that temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius could affect several districts in the coming days.
Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy advised people to exercise extreme caution because of the severe summer conditions. He also warned that unseasonal rains, gusty winds, thunder and lightning could occur simultaneously across parts of the State.
The Minister said authorities must take precautionary measures to prevent loss of life and property during the extreme weather conditions.
Telangana heatwave alert issued for several districts
Officials stated that temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius were likely in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Nirmal districts.
In addition, heat intensity is expected to increase in Jagtial, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Peddapalli districts over the next few days.
Therefore, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy appealed to people to avoid going outdoors between 8:30 am and 5 pm unless necessary.
He advised children, elderly people, pregnant women and people with health problems to remain extra cautious. Moreover, he recommended drinking sufficient water, buttermilk and ORS solutions.
The Minister also advised outdoor workers to wear head coverings for protection from the sun.
Telangana heatwave alert prompts emergency measures
Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy instructed district administrations to ensure that people did not face difficulties because of the heatwave.
He directed collectors to maintain drinking water supply, uninterrupted power supply, medical services, ambulances and firefighting facilities.
Furthermore, the Minister ordered officials to publicise preventive measures against heatstroke in villages and towns. He also asked them to create awareness among the public about summer safety precautions.
The Minister said protecting public safety remained the government’s top priority. He added that the government was continuously monitoring the situation because of the severe heat conditions.
