Police hold dialogue with transgender community in Hyderabad North Zone

Hyderabad: North Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Rashmi Perumal on Tuesday held a meeting with members of the transgender community in Hyderabad to address concerns related to social inclusion, livelihood, and public complaints.

About 25 transgender individuals attended the meeting. They raised key issues such as social discrimination, absence of identity documents, delays in getting transgender certificates, and barriers to accessing government welfare schemes.

Public concerns and livelihood challenges addressed

Participants spoke openly about their struggles. Many cited low job opportunities, poor social acceptance, and lack of institutional help. In addition, they responded to frequent public complaints of nuisance during weddings and housewarming events. Residents alleged that some transgender groups were demanding large sums in the name of blessings, causing fear and unease.

In response, DCP Rashmi Perumal advised the community to avoid any kind of pressure or intimidation. She warned that such actions could lead to legal problems and hurt their standing with the public.

Police promise support and continued dialogue

Furthermore, the DCP encouraged transgender individuals to pursue skill training and self-employment to achieve a stable and respectful livelihood. She assured them that their genuine issues would be brought to the notice of concerned departments for help and support.

The meeting ended with a mutual commitment to uphold dignity, ensure public order, and maintain regular communication between the police and the community.
