Shakthi 2026 promotes transgender inclusion in Hyderabad police

Hyderabad: Shakthi 2026, an initiative by Radhika Charitable Trust, highlighted transgender inclusion with the distribution of uniform kits to police personnel in Hyderabad.

The programme was held at the Telangana Integrated Command Control Centre in Banjara Hills on April 13. It focused on empowerment, awareness and social inclusion.

A total of 40 uniform kits were distributed to transgender police personnel. Moreover, organisers said the initiative symbolised dignity, identity and recognition of the community’s role in public service.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar attended as the chief guest. Meanwhile, former Union Home Secretary K. Padmanabhaiah and Joint Commissioner of Police D. Joel Davis were present as guests of honour.

Addressing the event, Sajjanar said transgender personnel have been effectively managing traffic duties in the city. In addition, he noted that supporting them through such initiatives reflects inclusive governance.

He said the police department is looking to recruit more transgender personnel in the future. Furthermore, he appreciated the efforts of the trust in promoting inclusion.

Radhika Reddy Tanguturu, founder of the trust, said the initiative aimed at building confidence and promoting dignity. According to her, the programme sends a message that every individual deserves respect and opportunity.

The event also highlighted the role of transgender personnel in public service. At the same time, participants said such efforts strengthen social acceptance and representation.

Radhika Charitable Trust, founded in 2010, has been working on education, healthcare and community inclusion initiatives across Hyderabad.
