Hyderabad: The Telangana government has approved ₹11.86 crore for the restoration and renovation of Old City kamaans under the Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA). The project will be funded by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
The government also permitted QQSUDA to appoint a consultancy agency. It authorised the preparation of detailed project reports and allowed officials to invite separate tenders for each restoration work.
Old City kamaans restoration to cover eight gateways
The project includes Rani Gunj Kamaan, Sheik Faiz Kamaan, Chatta Bazaar Kamaan, Dewan Deodi Kamaan-I, Dabeerpura Kamaan, Hussaini Alam Kamaan, Dewan Deodi Kamaan-II and Hashmat Gunj Kamaan. QQSUDA identified all eight gateways for immediate restoration.
Further, the government said many of the heritage structures had deteriorated over the years. Weathering, traffic pressure and inadequate maintenance had weakened several of the gateways. The restoration aims to preserve these monuments and improve public safety.
Meanwhile, QQSUDA will supervise the project. The consultancy agency will prepare detailed project reports, estimates and allied documents. After that, QQSUDA will invite separate tenders for each restoration work.
