Hyderabad: A woman from Odisha was arrested in Hyderabad with 11.4 kilograms of dry ganja worth ₹5.7 lakh. The Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone, in coordination with SR Nagar Police, apprehended the accused on Friday during a joint operation.
The accused, Rinita Raita (30), a resident of Kesariguda village in Gajapati district, Odisha, was found in possession of the narcotic substance. Police seized the contraband and a mobile phone from her.
Accused recruited by cousin due to financial distress
According to investigators, Rinita was struggling to sustain her family on daily wages from construction work. Her husband, a farmer, earned barely enough to cover basic expenses. Desperate for income, she contacted her cousin Maniel Dalabehera, a known ganja dealer from Patangapadar village, Odisha.
Last week, Maniel met Rinita at Chadampur Bazar and convinced her to join him in Hyderabad to sell ganja. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted her and recovered 11.4 kg of dry ganja from her possession.
Police urge youth to avoid drug networks
The Commissioner’s Task Force has warned the public, especially the youth, about the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking. Authorities said drugs damage health, ruin families, and can permanently destroy a person’s future due to criminal records.
Citizens have been urged to stay alert and report drug-related activity to the police by dialing 100. Officials stressed that public cooperation is key to maintaining a drug-free Hyderabad.
The arrest was made under the supervision of West Zone Task Force Inspector Ch. Yadender and SIP D. Ravi Raj, in coordination with SR Nagar Police.
