New Year traffic restrictions imposed in Hyderabad, police issue advisory

Hyderabad: In view of New Year celebrations, Hyderabad police imposed New Year traffic restrictions across the city, with curbs in force from 11 pm to 2 am on Wednesday night.

In-charge Traffic Joint Commissioner Venkateshwarlu said police would close most flyovers from 10 pm on Tuesday until January 1 morning, depending on traffic conditions. However, Begumpet and Tolichowki flyovers will remain open.

He advised private vehicle users entering the city to take the Outer Ring Road instead of inner routes to reduce congestion.

Police will ban vehicle movement on Tank Bund and Necklace Road from 11 pm to 2 am. Officers have also identified busy zones and crowd-prone areas for special monitoring.

Police will conduct checks at 217 locations across Hyderabad during the night. They will focus especially on Tank Bund, NTR Marg, Necklace Road and areas near shopping malls.

Police will allow access to the PV Expressway only for passengers carrying valid flight tickets. Officials said this step will help manage airport-bound traffic smoothly.

Meanwhile, police warned motorists against drunk driving and said teams will begin drunk driving checks from 8 pm onwards. They also cautioned against rash driving and traffic rule violations, warning of strict legal action.

The police urged citizens to cooperate with enforcement teams and follow traffic advisories. They said responsible behaviour would help ensure safe and orderly New Year celebrations across Hyderabad.
