Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Limited Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti on Thursday directed officials to raise Naini coal supply to Yadadri Thermal Power Station to 10,000–14,000 tonnes daily.
Currently, around 2,100 tonnes of coal was being transported daily from the Naini mine in Odisha. The CMD ordered officials to take all necessary measures to gradually raise daily transportation to the targeted level.
Buddhaprakash Jyoti also directed General Managers across Singareni areas to increase coal production. The move was aimed at enhancing supplies to all thermal power stations in Telangana amid El Niño conditions.
He said Telangana’s energy requirements should receive the highest priority in line with the state government’s directions. Therefore, SCCL officials were asked to further increase coal supplies to thermal power plants.
The CMD issued the directions during a detailed review meeting on Thursday afternoon. Singareni Directors, Executive Director (Coal Movement) and the General Manager of the Naini Area participated. Officials reviewed coal production, available stocks and transportation arrangements during the meeting.
Naini coal supply to Yadadri gets special focus
Buddhaprakash Jyoti directed officials to give special attention to increasing coal supplies from Naini to Yadadri Thermal Power Station. Yadadri was described as the largest GENCO thermal power station in Telangana.
He asked officials to identify bottlenecks affecting coal transportation and resolve them immediately. Naini Area General Manager Baidya informed the CMD that adequate coal stocks were available at the mine. He said the stocks were sufficient to meet transportation requirements.
However, local conditions affected the movement of coal from the mine. The General Manager said trucks were currently transporting coal to railway sidings during night hours. In response, Buddhaprakash Jyoti suggested deploying more trucks. This would help move the available coal to railway sidings as quickly as possible.
He also directed officials to coordinate with the state GENCO on transportation arrangements. Moreover, he asked them to arrange additional transportation contracts if the existing arrangements proved inadequate.
Naini coal supply target requires transport expansion
The CMD asked officials to examine every possible alternative for increasing daily coal transportation to between 10,000 and 14,000 tonnes. In particular, he directed them to coordinate with the Angul district administration in Odisha. Officials were asked to resolve issues affecting coal movement by road.
Buddhaprakash Jyoti also directed Executive Director (Coal Movement) B. Venkanna to continuously monitor transportation arrangements. This included ensuring the availability of railway rakes at the railway siding. Meanwhile, all departments concerned were asked to maintain close coordination to increase Naini coal supply to Yadadri Thermal Power Station.
The CMD stressed that officials should remain fully vigilant to prevent any coal shortage at thermal power stations. At the same time, SCCL would have to increase production to meet Telangana’s growing energy requirements.
Directors L.V. Suryanarayana (Operations), K. Venkateshwarlu (Projects and Planning) and Gowtham Potru (Personnel and Finance) attended the review. Executive Director (Coal Movement) B. Venkanna and General Manager (Coordination and Marketing) T. Srinivas also participated, along with other officials.
