Harish Rao named A1 as Siddipet police file fresh phone tapping FIR

Hyderabad: Siddipet police registered a fresh FIR in the Harish Rao phone tapping case and added six sections to the original case. The former minister and BRS MLA figured as accused No. 1 (A1).

Initially, Panjagutta police station in Hyderabad registered the case. However, authorities later transferred it to Siddipet One Town police station. There, police added provisions under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act.

Specifically, the additional IPC sections included 419, 420, 467 and 406. In addition, police invoked Sections 66C and 66D of the IT Act. These six provisions expanded the charges in the original FIR.

Former Task Force DCP Radhakishan Rao figured as accused No. 2 (A2). He had earlier faced arrest in connection with the phone tapping allegations.

Harish Rao phone tapping case stems from surveillance complaint

The case began with a complaint by Chakradhar Goud at Panjagutta police station. He alleged that the then government illegally tapped his phone and his wife’s phone in 2023.

Goud also accused those involved of violating their privacy. Furthermore, he alleged that they monitored the couple’s movements as part of a conspiracy. Based on his complaint, police registered the original case on December 1, 2024.

Following the transfer, Siddipet police began examining the complaint and the alleged roles of those involved. They are also investigating the circumstances behind the alleged surveillance and the possible involvement of others.

The fresh FIR included additional provisions relating to alleged impersonation, cheating, forgery and breach of trust. It also invoked offences under the IT Act.

With these additions, the Harish Rao phone tapping case now carries six more sections. Police are examining the allegations against the named accused and the possible involvement of others.
