Yadadri power plant: Fifth unit trial run successful

Nalgonda: The trial run of the fifth unit at the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant has been successful. Genco officials recently completed the trial at the plant in Veerlapalem, Damaracharla mandal. Four units are already available at the plant.

Officials have taken steps to generate electricity at full capacity from all five units by next month. Four units of 800 MW each currently generate 3,200 MW in total. The fifth unit has not started yet because work is pending. With the trial run complete, the authorities are preparing to begin generation there.

Project cost crosses Rs 37,000 crore

The plant in Nalgonda district is under construction with five units of 800 MW each, giving it a total capacity of 4,000 MW. Work began in 2017 at an estimated cost of Rs 29,000 crore. Delays have since pushed the project cost past Rs 37,000 crore.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) won the work through a tender and assigned several works to subcontractors. However, an investigation by senior officials found that the quality of the coal supply system, CHP and AHP construction was lacking.
