KTR condemns arrests of BRS leaders over Jurala water demand

Hyderabad: BRS working president KTR criticised police action against party leaders over the Jurala water demand for farmers. He called the detentions unjust and demanded their immediate release.

KTR said police detained former ministers Singireddy Niranjan Reddy, Laxma Reddy and Srinivas Goud, along with former MLAs and other BRS leaders. He alleged that the government was trying to suppress protests over irrigation water.

According to KTR, farmers were watching their crops dry while the government failed to address their concerns. He alleged that authorities ordered preventive arrests and house detentions across several mandals to stop the proposed BRS protest.

KTR also claimed that the Jurala reservoir had around nine TMC of available water. He alleged that the government was refusing to release water despite the farmers’ demand.

Jurala water demand focuses on standing crops

KTR alleged that police booked criminal cases against farmers who tried to raise the Jurala gates to protect their crops. He also criticised the deployment of police and barricades around the project.

He said authorities restricted farmers from entering areas surrounding the Jurala Project. According to KTR, hundreds of police personnel guarded the project and nearby locations.

The BRS working president further claimed that only two TMC would meet drinking water needs. He questioned the decision not to release any water from the available nine TMC to farmers under the project.

Meanwhile, KTR renewed the Jurala water demand and sought the release of the detained BRS leaders. He also called for immediate irrigation water for farmers in the project ayacut.

KTR warned that continued restrictions and failure to address the farmers’ demand could lead to further protests. His remarks came amid heightened security around the Jurala Project and preventive action against BRS leaders.
