KTR demands Revanth Reddy’s resignation after ED names him in National Herald chargesheet

Hyderabad: BRS working president K Tarakarama Rao (KTR) on Saturday demanded that Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy step down immediately after the Enforcement Directorate named him in its chargesheet in the National Herald-Young India case, branding it a moral failure of the Congress leadership.

Addressing reporters at Telangana Bhavan, KTR described the situation as unprecedented, saying the state’s dignity had been undermined by having a sitting Chief Minister named in a major national corruption case. “If Revanth Reddy has even a shred of conscience, he must resign. Otherwise, the Congress must act – assuming it still upholds any ethical standard,” he said.

KTR alleged that Reddy had effectively turned Telangana into an ATM for the Congress high command. He referenced past claims by Congress MP Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, asserting that Revanth paid ₹50 crore to secure the Pradesh Congress Committee president’s post and continued similar dealings to hold onto the Chief Minister’s chair. “He has institutionalised a system where Telangana pays Delhi for political protection,” KTR said.

He criticised Reddy’s disappearance when the ED began probing the National Herald case, saying the Chief Minister’s Japan trip was likely a cover for evasion. “We now know why he fled – he was anticipating this. The chargesheet has confirmed our suspicions,” KTR said.

KTR also raised eyebrows over Revanth Reddy’s frequent trips to Delhi – 44 in less than a year and a half. “He isn’t going there for development. He’s going at night to beg Amit Shah for ED immunity, and by morning, he returns to act like a bold leader before the cameras,” Rao alleged.

The BRS leader hit out at the BJP for its silence despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself accusing Reddy of running the so-called “Triple R tax” – Rahul, Revanth, Reddy – during an election rally in Hyderabad on 10 May. “Why has no Telangana BJP leader pursued this? Where is their follow-up?” he asked.

Drawing a parallel with Karnataka, KTR recalled how B.S. Yediyurappa stepped down when corruption allegations surfaced. “Why is Rahul Gandhi silent now? He never misses a chance to comment on national issues – is Telangana not part of India?” he said.

Listing what he described as a string of scandals under the Congress-led state government, KTR named the Civil Supplies scam, the Amrut construction scam involving Reddy’s brother-in-law, and the Hyderabad Central University land scam. “Even when the Centre’s Empowered Committee called for investigations into these irregularities, no agency took action. Why this selective silence?” he questioned.

KTR accused both Congress and BJP of a tacit arrangement to shield each other’s corrupt leaders. Citing the Valmiki scam in Karnataka, he said ₹45 crore traced in the case was believed to have landed in Telangana – yet no probe was conducted to identify the recipients. “It’s a ‘Brahma rahasyam’ – a divine mystery. Who is protecting whom?” he asked.

He also referred to the 2023 ED raids on Congress Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s home, where cash-counting machines were allegedly used. “Still, no ED statement, no case, no prosecution. Are the ED and BJP shielding the Congress in Telangana?” he asked.

KTR asserted that the DNA of the Congress party was “corruption”, and said the BJP’s silence showed complicity. “If this continues, we will launch a mass campaign not just against Congress, but also BJP. Let them know – we will expose both,” he warned.

He urged the media to report honestly, warning that if traditional platforms failed to highlight the facts, social media would. “You may suppress our voice, but not the people’s. The truth will come out,” he said.
