Hyderabad: Police destroyed 1,592 kilograms of ganja seized in 13 cases registered across eight police station limits in Kothagudem district.
The destruction took place over two days, on Wednesday and Thursday. Police carried out the process at a bio-disposal plant in Gopalapet of Thallada mandal.
Authorities followed pollution control norms during the process. The district drug disposal committee supervised the operation throughout.
Officials estimated the destroyed ganja value at around Rs 7.96 crore. Police said they completed the disposal after securing court permission.
The district drug disposal committee chairman and Superintendent of Police Rohith Raju issued instructions for the operation. Accordingly, Palvancha DSP Satish Kumar led the disposal process.
Ganja disposal carried out as per the NDPS Act norms
Police divided the seized ganja into phases before destruction. As a result, the disposal continued from morning until evening.
SP Rohith Raju said police followed NDPS Act guidelines while destroying ganja stored at various police stations. He added that the process ensured complete neutralisation of the contraband.
Meanwhile, the SP said ganja traders were targeting urban and rural youth. He said such activities pushed young people towards addiction.
Therefore, police formed special surveillance teams across the district. These teams aim to curb ganja sales and drug-related crimes.
The SP warned that police would take strict action against ganja sellers. At the same time, he said police would also book cases against consumers and send them to jail.
Police officers, including Palvancha DSP Satish Kumar, DCRB CI Srinivas, and other personnel, participated in the programme.
