Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force and RGIA Police apprehended an interstate ganja peddler and seized 8 kg of ganja. Police also recovered a mobile phone, with the seized property valued at around Rs 4 lakh.
Police identified the accused as Raj Pradhan alias Gaura, 22, a farmer from Bartini village in Berhampur. The village is located in Ganjan district of Odisha. Another accused, Ram Brada alias Bolaram alias Ram, allegedly supplied the ganja to Pradhan. However, police said he was absconding.
According to police, Pradhan came into contact with Ram in Odisha and allegedly began procuring ganja from him. He allegedly purchased the contraband for about Rs 8,000 per 2-kg packet.
Interstate ganja peddler targeted Hyderabad customers
Police said the interstate ganja peddler transported the contraband from Odisha to Hyderabad for sale to customers. He allegedly planned to sell each 2-kg packet for between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000.
Acting on credible information, personnel from the Commissioner’s Task Force, Shamshabad Zone, intercepted Pradhan. During the operation, the team recovered 8 kg of ganja from his possession. Following his apprehension, Task Force personnel handed Pradhan over to RGIA Police for further investigation.
RGIA Police subsequently registered a case under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Further investigation was taken up into the alleged supply network and the absconding accused.
Meanwhile, police appealed to youngsters and students to stay away from drugs. They also urged parents to closely monitor their children’s activities. In addition, police asked the public to provide information about drug-related activities. They said public cooperation would help efforts to make Hyderabad a drug-free city.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Shamshabad Zone Inspector D. Krishna Moha. Sub-Inspectors S. Seshu, K. Mansoor Ali and N. Narasinga Rao also participated in the operation. Other Task Force personnel joined the operation in coordination with RGIA Police.
