Kavitha warns of Telangana-like agitation over delimitation

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha warned of a major agitation over the proposed delimitation, cautioning the Centre against any move that reduces Telangana’s political representation.

She said any attempt to dilute representation would trigger a large-scale public movement. At the same time, she warned that the agitation could match the intensity of the Telangana movement.

Kavitha said southern states led the country in economic growth and population control. Therefore, she argued they should not be penalised through such policy changes.

She said Telangana currently held a 3.13 per cent share in Parliament. In addition, she asserted that this share must remain the minimum benchmark.

Delimitation row sparks warning of statewide protests

Kavitha said her party’s stand remained firm and non-negotiable. Consequently, she warned that any reduction in representation would face strong resistance.

She said the fight would extend from Parliament to the streets if necessary. At the same time, she said Telangana Jagruthi would mobilise people against what she termed demographic injustice.

Kavitha also criticised the Centre over linking the Women’s Reservation Bill with the exercise. She alleged that such a move created confusion and raised doubts over intent.

She questioned the basis for implementing the bill using older census data. Meanwhile, she reiterated that population-based redistribution would disadvantage southern states.
