Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena president Kalvakuntla Kavitha announced that a public meeting would take place in Hyderabad on August 6 to demand 50% BC reservations. She said the event would coincide with the birth anniversary of Prof. K. Jayashankar.
Kavitha addressed a meeting of BC leaders at the TRS office in Banjara Hills on Monday. She said the TRS would organise the programme under the banner of “Samajika Nyaya Telangana Sadhana Sabha.”
50% BC reservations campaign to intensify
Kavitha said Telangana Jagruthi and the TRS had campaigned for reservations based on the BC population for the past two years. Meanwhile, she said the August 6 meeting would bring together BCs and members of all other communities. The aim, she added, was to build pressure on both the Centre and the state government.
Further, Kavitha said the TRS would observe Prof. Jayashankar’s birth anniversary as Samajika Nyaya Telangana Day. She also expressed confidence that the Hyderabad meeting would inspire similar movements across the country.
However, Kavitha claimed the Congress government had passed separate Bills in the Assembly and Legislative Council to provide 42% reservations for BCs in education, jobs and local bodies. She alleged that the state government had not made sufficient efforts to secure the Centre’s approval for those Bills.
Finally, Kavitha called on all sections of society to unite for 50% BC reservations. She said only a united movement could achieve the demand.
