Hyderabad: Railway Police busted an interstate ganja smuggling racket and seized 14.322 kg of contraband at Secunderabad Railway Station.
The Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force conducted the operation on May 4. They carried out surprise checks on platforms and trains.
Police arrested one transporter and identified another accused as absconding. The seized material was valued at around Rs 7.16 lakh.
Interstate ganja smuggling racket busted
The arrested person was identified as Jawahar Kumar, a native of Bihar. Police said he worked as a labourer in Odisha before the incident.
According to investigators, an absconding accused, Akhilesh Kumar, recruited him for transporting ganja. He allegedly offered Rs 7,000 per trip.
On May 3, the accused received a trolley suitcase containing ganja packets. He boarded the Visakha Express from Balugaon in Odisha.
He concealed the suitcase under his seat and travelled to Secunderabad. He reached the station on May 4 and waited for further instructions.
Seizure in interstate ganja smuggling case
Meanwhile, police teams intercepted him during checking at the station. They seized 14.322 kg of ganja from his possession.
Subsequently, officials registered a case under provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. The main accused remained absconding.
The operation took place under the supervision of senior railway police officers. Further investigation is underway.
