Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath directed officials to complete HYDRAA lake development works around Sunnam Cheruvu and Thammidikunta ahead of their proposed inauguration.
Ranganath inspected both lakes on Tuesday and reviewed the remaining works. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was expected to inaugurate the restored lakes during the Dasara festival period.
The commissioner expressed satisfaction over the removal of silt and the deepening of both water bodies. However, he asked officials to focus on developing the surrounding areas. He inspected plans for strong fencing, pathways and greenery around the lakes. Ranganath said the surroundings should also be beautified as part of the restoration programme.
HYDRAA lake development works around Sunnam Cheruvu
At Sunnam Cheruvu, Ranganath directed officials to complete the inlet channel and construct a culvert. He also ordered the immediate completion of related road works. The commissioner asked officials to improve access roads leading to the lake from Gayatri Nagar and Borabanda.
He also inspected development work at the Anjaneya temple adjoining Sunnam Cheruvu. Local residents met Ranganath during the inspection and appreciated the transformation of the lake. They said the water body had changed significantly compared with its earlier condition.
Residents said the lake would look more attractive when it reached its full water level. They also appreciated HYDRAA’s efforts in completing the restoration despite several obstacles. Some residents also praised the development of Thammidikunta after the removal of N Convention.
Ranganath later reviewed the remaining works with CMC Commissioner Srujana. Officials from CMC and HYDRAA attended the meeting at the CMC office. The review focused on completing works required around both lakes before their planned opening.
