Rotten fish stored with chemicals, say police
According to police, Shankar Singh bought fish and prawns at low prices from Begum Bazaar market. He allegedly stored them in unhygienic conditions. To prevent foul odour and delay spoilage, he allegedly used sodium bicarbonate powder.
Investigators also alleged that the accused kept the seafood in plastic tubs and deep freezers. Later, they allegedly supplied it as fresh stock to hotels, private functions and events. As a result, officials warned that consumers could face serious health risks.
Meanwhile, Additional DCP Ande Srinivasa Rao supervised the operation. Inspector R. Venkatesh of the Golconda Zone Task Force, Mangalhat Inspector S. Raghavendra, Sub-Inspectors K. Venkataramana, N. Naveen and Anjaneyulu, along with other police personnel, participated in the raid.
