Hyderabad police arrest rowdy sheeter in builder extortion case

Hyderabad: Dabeerpura police arrested a rowdy sheeter in a builder extortion case after a Hyderabad-based builder accused him of demanding Rs 50 lakh and issuing repeated threats.

Police registered Crime No. 103/2026 under Sections 329(4), 308(6), 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The accused, Habeeb Ali Baghdadi, 57, is a businessman from King Koti and a rowdy sheeter at Abids Police Station.

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly entered a construction site in Azampura on multiple occasions and intimidated the builder and his staff.

Police said he allegedly threatened them with serious consequences and displayed a knife while demanding money.

Builder extortion case investigation targets repeat offender

Investigators alleged that the accused threatened to implicate the complainant in criminal cases if he failed to meet the demand.

During the builder extortion case investigation, police found that the accused allegedly targeted builders and owners of newly constructed buildings.

He allegedly identified suspected violations and circulated related content on social media.

Police said he later demanded money while threatening to file complaints with various government departments.

Officials also found that the accused has a criminal background.

He is involved in several cases registered at Abids and Narayanguda police stations.

The cases include allegations of extortion, criminal intimidation, trespass, cheating and other offences.

Dabeerpura police apprehended the accused on June 22.

Sub-Inspector N. Naveen is investigating the case under the guidance of Inspector P. Upashankar.

Senior officers of Hyderabad’s Charminar Zone are supervising the investigation.

Police said further investigation in the builder extortion case is underway.
