Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police launched an anti-drug screening operation targeting rowdy sheeters, troublemakers and repeat offenders involved in NDPS cases across the city.
The special drive took place on May 6 under the directions of Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar. H-NEW teams, Task Force personnel and local police jointly conducted the operation.
Officials said the drive aimed to spread awareness about the legal consequences and health risks linked to drug abuse.
DCP Vibhav Raghunath Gaikwad and Additional DCP Ande Srinivas supervised the operation in the Charminar Zone.
Doctors from Gandhi Hospital, Osmania General Hospital and the Government Mental Health Hospital at Erragadda coordinated with police teams during the medical tests.
Anti-drug screening detects multiple positive cases
At Gandhi Hospital, officials screened 41 individuals. Among them, 12 tested positive while 29 tested negative.
Authorities tested 90 individuals at Osmania General Hospital. Officials identified 52 positive cases and 38 negative cases there.
Meanwhile, doctors at the Erragadda mental health hospital screened 73 people. Of them, 23 tested positive while 50 tested negative.
Overall, officials conducted tests on 204 individuals during the operation. Police confirmed that 87 people tested positive for drug consumption.
Psychiatrists later counselled the individuals who tested positive. Doctors explained the harmful effects of drug abuse and stressed the importance of rehabilitation.
Police said they were registering cases against the individuals who tested positive according to the law.
Hyderabad Police stated that H-NEW and Task Force teams would continue strict action against drug-related activities across the city.
Officials also appealed to the public to stay away from drugs and support efforts to maintain a safe and healthy society.
