Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force of Rajendranagar Zone and Kalapathar Police arrested a man for allegedly creating fake police videos and posting them online.
Police identified the accused as Mohammed Abubakar Ali Tabassum, 27, a delivery executive. Officials said he impersonated a police officer to gain followers on social media.
Investigators said the accused used AI-based software to create fabricated videos. He allegedly projected himself as a police official in the content.
Police also alleged that he displayed weapons in the videos. Consequently, the content had the potential to mislead viewers.
Officials said the videos could also create public alarm among social media users.
Fake police videos created using AI software
Police registered a case at Kalapathar Police Station under Section 205 of BNS and Sections 66 and 66D of the IT Act.
Later, acting on specific information, the Task Force team and local police apprehended the accused within Mailardevpally Police Station limits.
During the operation, police seized a mobile phone valued at ₹10,000. Officials said the accused used the device for the offence.
Police also recovered incriminating material from the accused. Meanwhile, investigators are continuing the probe to identify possible associates linked to the fake videos.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the Rajendranagar Task Force and Kalapathar Police teams under DCP Task Force Vibhav Gaikwad.
Further, police advised citizens not to trust or circulate unverified social media content. Officials asked people to rely only on official information sources.
