Hyderabad Police book 351 drunk driving cases in special drive

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 351 drunk driving cases during a two-day special enforcement drive conducted on May 8 and 9 to improve road safety across the city.

Officials said 292 two-wheeler riders, 30 three-wheeler drivers, and 29 four-wheeler and other vehicle drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol during the operation.

According to traffic police data, 69 drivers recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 30 and 50, while 146 cases fell in the 51 to 100 category. Another 65 drivers registered BAC levels between 101 and 150.

Police also booked 44 cases in the 151 to 200 BAC category, 15 cases in the 201 to 250 range, and seven cases in the 251 to 300 category. Five drivers were found with BAC levels above 300.

Drunk driving cases face a zero-tolerance policy

Hyderabad Traffic Police stated that strict enforcement against drunk driving violations would continue across the city. Officials reiterated that there would be zero tolerance towards offenders endangering public safety.

The department appealed to commuters to cooperate with traffic personnel and avoid driving after consuming alcohol. Officials said special drives would continue regularly to reduce accidents caused by drunken driving.

Traffic police also advised citizens to use public transport, cabs, or designated drivers to ensure safer travel during late hours and weekends.
