Hyderabad: Hyderabad and Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 823 motorists during a drunk driving crackdown conducted as part of special enforcement drives to strengthen road safety.
Hyderabad Traffic Police carried out the special drive on July 17 and 18. Meanwhile, Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a separate weekend enforcement campaign across the commissionerate.
Drunk driving crackdown in Hyderabad
Hyderabad Traffic Police caught 586 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during the two-day drive, according to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Joel Davis.
Among those booked, 439 were riding two-wheelers. In addition, police booked 45 auto-rickshaw drivers, 97 car drivers and five drivers of other heavy vehicles. Traffic Police said the special drive aimed to improve road safety and prevent accidents caused by drunken driving.
Cyberabad Traffic Police also intensified enforcement during the weekend, Additional DCP (Traffic) G. Narendra said. The Cyberabad Police booked 237 motorists for drunken driving. Accordingly, they registered cases against 205 two-wheeler riders, four auto-rickshaw drivers and 28 car drivers.
Traffic Police said they would continue conducting regular enforcement drives against drunken driving to improve road safety and ensure stricter compliance with traffic rules.
