Hyderabad: Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police warned people against sharing personal photos as part of the 1980s photo trend on social media. They advised users not to download APK files promoted in the name of the trend.
Police said unknown apps could misuse photos and other data stored on phones. They also urged people to exercise caution before uploading personal photographs to websites.
If such photos reach unknown users, criminals could morph them and use them to threaten victims. Police also warned that AI tools could create fake photos and videos using altered images.
1980s photo trend raises concerns over suspicious APK files
Cyber Crime Police advised people not to click suspicious links circulated in the name of the 1980s photo trend. They specifically cautioned users about APK files shared through WhatsApp groups, social media links and unknown individuals.
In addition, police asked people not to post photographs of others without their consent. They urged users to avoid sharing personal photos indiscriminately as a precaution against misuse.
Anyone who had already downloaded a suspicious app should delete it immediately. Police also advised such users to check their banking and personal accounts for any unusual activity.
People who fell victim to cyber fraud should immediately call 1930. They should also file a complaint at the nearest Cyber Crime Police Station.
Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police said personal safety should take priority over the 1980s photo trend. The warning was issued through an official statement.
